Spain's Oscar Freire won the fifth stage of the Tour de France on Thursday, holding off overall leader Tom Boonen of Belgium in the finishing sprint. Freire jumped to third in the overall standings, with American George Hincapie dropping to fourth. Michael Rogers of Australia stayed in second place.
